How to write an amount in words on a check
US banks treat the written amount as the legal amount if the numbers and the words disagree. The usual format is:

- Spell the whole dollars in words.
- Write cents as a fraction over 100, even for 00/100.
- Do not use “and” inside the dollar amount. Use “and” only before the cents.
